NICODA's How We Are Connected is a Six Year Performing Arts Response to The Genographic Project
We Explore the Cultural DNA of Performing Arts and Use the Arts to Help Compass the Depths of Human Connections

        NICODA
is The New International Center of Diverse Artists, an innovative performing arts organization with a social mission rooted in the belief that cultures should speak to each other.

The arts play a valuable role in society, and at NICODA, we hope to use the arts to unite people of all cultures.  Hence, we have year-round diverse arts programs and an Annual International Performing Arts Festival, which provide a platform to artists of diverse backgrounds.  Performance submissions are welcome from artists and arts organizations.

The artistic development of the How We Are Connected project will result in a theatrical interpretation and response to National Geographic's The Genographic Project and is a multi-disciplinary piece that encompasses theatre, music, dance, multi-media and science, performed by a group of artists who represent a variety of backgrounds.

The provocative idea is 'the science', whereby the artists (like the subjects of The Genographic Project) take an actual DNA test that becomes the impetus for the collaboration and directly influence the creative process and the production.

Each year, How We Are Connected focuses different regions of the world.  The opening year is 2012:

                                           The Caribbean
                                                    Africa

                                                     Asia
                                                   Europe
                                      North & South America

The How We Are Connected performances will be presented at the annual NICODA Festival held in New  York City.  The festival provides a stage for the gathering of innovative artistic expressions and voices from around the world, and serves as an impetus for community building, discussions about cultural identity and a new way of  thinking about ourselves and 'others' in the world.
